Royal Wedding Anniversary

A year ago today, millions of people all around the world witnessed Prince William and Kate Middleton tie the knot. Do you remember what you were doing during this historical event?  Were you watching it live on TV bright and early like millions of us did?  Or did you travel to London to experience it all for yourself? Personally, I watched it live from the comfort of my apartment, constantly reading Twitter and other social media sites.

The Royal Wedding was the wedding of the century and will be remembered for years to come!

TBS Tip: The Ugly Side of Event Planning

Wedding and Event Planning does not have to be ugly, the solution is simple, or can be simple if you follow a few simple tips.

After this weekends tent fatality and injuries I think it's important to learn from this experience.  This past Saturday there were over 100 injured due to strong winds, which ended up picking up the event tent and bringing it down on several people.  It's a tragic story where those who were celebrating were hurt.

When planning your event or wedding, take these procedure to not only protect your guests, but to protect yourself in the long run.

#1.  When planning an event, it's always a good idea to take a good look at the venue, whether it's outside or in.  If it's indoors, check out the exits and disaster plans.  Go over the venue with your planner to decide on a plan of action if the weather should turn for the worst.  If the event is outdoors, always have an indoor location close by where your guests can go if the whether should not cooperate.  And if your hosting a wedding or event in a tent, make sure the tent you are selecting will be secure to the ground.  Either by stakes or water barrels.

#2.  If you are planning on using a tent, I strongly encourage you to provide a floor for your guests.  That way the grounds will not be ruined by a little rain. You will also want to talk to the company you are renting the tent from and make sure there will be staff there to help with tent maintenance under bad weather.  You'll want to make sure the tent company you are using has insurance as well.

#3.  Lastly, you will want to make sure you have insurance to protect yourself.  I use a company called WedSafe.  If anything like weather affects your wedding, you will be covered.  Even if you are not using a tent, make sure to have some sort of insurance, I can not tell you how important this is.

Lastly, don't worry about the small stuff.  Make sure you have prepared for inconsistencies in the plan ahead of time, and everything will be fine.

“Our ideal wedding would be simple, relaxed and fun. Imagine a garden tea party with all your closest friends and family. 100% DIY and vintage. Our colors (picked out by jon!): blue, cream and slate grey. Mis-matched china, and cream lace table linens. The reception “tea party” includes a small cake for us and cake-pops for our guests. TBS Inspiration: DIY Lunch Bag Programs

Are you looking for a fun and unique idea for your ceremony programs? Well, we’ve got you covered! Check out these DIY Lunch Bag Programs! Using a generic brown paper lunch bag, print your ceremony program on the outside of both sides. Then, add a favor inside for each guest. Even better, add some bubbles, rice, or flower petals for your guests to shower you with as you walk back down the aisle. To top off the bag, use some sort of ribbon, burlap, or a mini-clothespin (as pictured) with an attached note to fasten the top! What a creative and inexpensive idea for a rustic backyard wedding!

TBS Tip: Using Color

Every time I get on Pinterest or open a bridal magazine, I see weddings incorporating more than two colors. I absolutely love this idea. I think many brides are afraid that having three or four colors will become too overwhelming, and stick to the “traditional” one or two colors. However, I think if done correctly and in moderation, the use of multiple colors can be an excellent way to add even more personality to a wedding! The Emmaline Bride blog has tons of beautiful, risk-taking color themes for inspiration.

To ensure the colors you are choosing go together in a uniformed way, contact Natalie for color guide, or have The Bridal Solution create a style guide for your wedding. This is an comprehensive template that brings all of your ideas to the table, creating a look that is unique and true to you, but has that designers eye!

Wedding POT LUCK? — why yes!!

Christa, a go-to Catering Director for Fresh Ideas, describes the hardest thing for her to see at big weddings: the big waste that can be left behind. Wanting their wedding to be different (and DIY delightful!), this couple’s simple and superb solution: invite family and friends to bring signature dishes to Aunt Robin’s backyard ala Pot Luck Extraordinaire.

Brennan + Christa celebrate with a Vintage Lawn Gathering followed by backyard games, the laughter of friends and yummy dishes-to-die-for. Old books and antiques-all-about (including grandpa’s old typewriter as a guestbook!) set the scene for this celebration. And a s’mores station is but one of the many treats in store. Get a wee taste of their home-grown vision here:

TBS Tip: The Cash Bar Debate

The cash bar debate ... Eeek!

So here is my advice from a Southern Inspired Social Planner, who happens to have a lot of opinions in the event world ... take it or leave it, but this is what we think ...

Never under any circumstances should your guests have to pay for their drinks at your wedding reception. N-E-V-E-R! Yes, we know that weddings are expensive and adding alcohol to the bill can get VERY costly. I understand, but you are hosting this fabulous event, why are you asking your closest friends and family to pay for their drinks? Ask yourself this, would you have them pay for their alcohol in your own home? Of course the answer is no.

Now, because beverages can add up quickly, and not everyone has a hefty budget, there are some alternatives to choose from.

1. Host a Beer and Wine Bar only. This will reduce the cost immensely. Guests will be absolutely fine with this option. Make sure to limit your wine choice to a single red and white, which will make it easy for guests to remember.

2. If mixed drinks are a must, consider adding a signature drink to the beer and wine bar. This will still give your guests the option, and it will cut down on costly mixed bar alternatives. This is a client favorite!

3. Pre-made mixers. Have dispensers filled with mixed cocktails, when they are gone, they are gone!

4. When selecting your venue, ask them if you are able to bring in your own alcohol. This is HUGE! Select stores like Sams's Club, Walmart and grocery stores will allow you to bring back and return any alcohol that is unopened after your reception. Make sure to stay under your budget, but have peace in mind knowing you'll get some money back at the end!

5. Skip the champagne toast. This is an old tradition, and the debate goes on-and-on. Some planners will tell you to forget about it, that guests don't even drink theirs. However, I am a traditionalist, I believe in the power of a good toast, and I think it's a great way for everyone to celebrate the bride and groom. BUT, if you're working on a limited alcohol budget, forget this old tradition. Most guests wont event notice!

6. Full Bar, but limit your guests list. This is one of those options that would help out of course, but is sometimes not feasible. If you can, lower your guests list to be able to provide a full bar. To us, we would rather have all of our friends and family around to celebrate, then to worry about all those mixed drinks!

TIP: Word the to wise: Always have a bartender. Your alcohol will last longer!

Cheers!

Don't forget the Bridesmaids

We all know planning your dream wedding can become overwhelming. Most brides are balancing two jobs- their career, and their wedding. When the going gets tough, you need a support system … aka your Bridesmaids. These ladies are going to be there for the late night phone calls, seating chart fiascos and the meltdowns. While you, of course, are the queen of the day, your girls should be treated as princesses, not ladies in waiting. So while you are busy getting caught up in cake testing and picking the exact right shade of blue, don’t forget to show your Bridesmaids you care. Buy them their jewelry, treat them to a spa day, or give each of them a cute clutch. Whatever it is, make sure it comes from the heart!

Top 5 Tips on Planning your Engagement Session

Happy Spring! We are LOVING the spring like weather here in the office and taking every chance we can get to sneak outside and enjoy it!

With beautiful weather comes some fantastic opportunities for outside engagement sessions. Whether you choose to have them indoors or out, here are some tips to make sure your photos are ones to remember!

TOP TREND in 2012 - Themed Engagement Sessions ... are you in or out? Here are 5 tips to help you plan your themed engagements!

5. Choose your Location

When choosing your location, pick a spot that's meaningful to you and your fiance. For instance, we have done many engagement sessions at family farms, country clubs, coffee shops or where the couple met. You're family and friends will love that you incorporated a special place!

4. Pick a Season

If you’re getting married in the winter plan a spring or summer engagement session. Picking a season which is different than the season your wedding is taking place during will provide different and dynamic photographs. Also keep in mind your timeline for save the date cards and other photography products such as guest signature books and canvases that you may want to display on your big day.

3. Select a Theme

Once you have chosen the time of year and location, bring in elements of your relationship. Do you love sports .. maybe a baseball field engagement session. Or do you both enjoy carnivals? One of our favorite engagement sessions was a bohemian theme! This should come easy for you!

2. Select your Props

Now here's the fun part. Incorporate props into your engagement session. Maybe it's by adding a balloon or vehicle. The possibilities are endless. If you are wanting a vintage themed engagement session, select old records, vintage clothing and remember to play the part. This includes hair & makeup. Use your surroundings. If you are shooting inside a grocery store, use their products. Most importantly, have fun with it!

1. Be Yourself

And lastly, do something that you're comfortable with, that you will love for years to come. Be Yourself! Nothing screams beautiful than a couple in love. Hire a great photographer that will allow you both to interact in a non-structured way. Let them capture the story of your love.

The Bridal Solution would love to help plan your E-Session. We will set the scene for you, complete with props directions. After that, it's all on you :) To schedule The Bridal Solution's E-Session Prop/Set-Up Package, please contact Natalie at the above tab. Thanks!
