TBS Inspiration: Plaid in Weddings

Everyone knows that plaid is back ... it's back BIG TIME. A lot of times, whenever there is a trend in fashion, there is a similar trend in entertaining. So it makes perfect sense to me why I am beginning to see plaid make its way into my clients weddings.

I am for one a huge fan of plaid in fall and winter weddings. It creates a warm and cozy feel the the space. So bring on the plaid!!

Real Wedding: Erin & Brent

Everyone in the office this past week was swooning over this Real Wedding. It's partly because the "theme" came together beautifully, without making the wedding look cheesy. So many times brides focus on "the theme" and stop paying attention to the details that bring the wedding together.

However, THIS wedding turned out stunning! And our favorite part? The hanging umbrellas ... LOVE!! In fact, we love it SO much, we already have a wedding on the books for next year using the same exact umbrellas!

Check it out ...

TBS Wedding Tip: Planning a Vintage Wedding

Planning a wedding in general is a difficult task. There are a lot of decisions to be made, and most of the time, these decisions rely heavily on another decision. It's a domino effect, and if you haven't planned a wedding before, it's hard to know exactly where to start. Planning a "Vintage Style" wedding is no different. But if you decide to have a vintage flair added to the overall look, you need to stick with that decision and see it through. To have a beautiful vintage wedding, everything from the attire to the location needs to scream "vintage."

Here is how to get started...

You'll need to decide on an era. If you're going for the roaring 20's, or are you headed in the 60's glam direction? Either way, you'll need to choose and stick with it. This will help you with decisions down the road.

Once you have decided on an era, turn your attention to attire. You'll want to choose a dress similar to those specific times. Think about your veil, purse, jewelery, etc. You'll need to do the same thing for the groom and groomsmen attire. Think bow ties, suspenders, hats, etc. Don't be afraid to mix and match, everything wasn't "perfect" back then, and if little details were dispersed, it will give your pictures a more interesting feel.

The next step you'll need is deciding what photographer to use. There are quite a few options here, but if you're planning a vintage wedding, you'll want a photographer who is capable of taking pictures either with a filter, film, or the ability to edit your photos so they look slightly older. You'll need to discuss this with the photographer you're looking into, and make sure they understand your vision.

Location, location, location. This can truly "make it" or "break it." If you are planning a vintage style wedding, the last thing you want to do is have your ceremony or reception in a large ballroom, or uber modern space. This is going to take away from your theme. Try some place like a restored barn, or an outdoor location. I did a beautiful wedding last year in a restored old farm house ... it was stunning!

The rest is all in the details. It will come down to the cake, the decor, the lighting, etc. If you want a vintage feel, you're going to have to bring in a lot of charm. This doesn't necessarily mean spending a lot of money. This could be anything from bringing in antique chairs for the guest tables, using old tins around the centerpieces, bringing in old furniture for a lounge space. Don't be afraid to bring elements from the outside, inside. All of this will turn heads, and give you the wedding with a vintage feel. Don't forget, it's all about the details! When you think you're done ... keep going :)

I stumbled across this the other day, and I thought It was an excellent way to reduce the cost of stationary, while giving your invitations an expensive feel. However, I must had, the time it will take to do this may make it less appealing :)

Have your invitations go from this ...

TBS Inspiration: Polaroid Guest Book

So many of our brides want a fun, non-traditional guest book for their guests to sign. Gone are the days of the white lined paper, where the book is closed after the ceremony, probably never opened again. You know it's true!

Right now pictures are hot for "guest books." Whether they are using a photo booth, black boards or a memory book, one thing is for sure ... the guests love them, and it make an amazing keepsake after the big day.

My new photo love is Polaroids. It's a fun, creative way to remember each of your guests. And let's face it ... they are going to have a BLAST doing this!!

You may also use these Polaroid pictures as escort cards. Simply write the table number at the bottom of the film, and place back at the reception site. If you have extra time, a nice touch would be adding their picture at their seat on their plate. It's a great touch!

To create a Polaroid guest book, here is what you will need ...

1. You'll need a Polaroid camera of course. There are some great options on there. You will also want to get enough Polaroid film for each guest, or couple. I would be more on the liberal side, you don't want to run out!

2. You'll need to set up a guest book table, scrapbook, photo sticker mounts & plenty of PENS!!

3. Signage is key here. You'll want to place a sign on the table instructing your guests to snap a photo, ad hear to the scrapbook & to leave a message for the Bride & Groom. Super Simple! If it were me, I would also have a larger sign on an easel for your guests to see while their sitting at their seats.

You'll be so glad you have these beautiful images to remind you of your wedding, and the people who were there to support you!
